In this in-person class, we'll learn how to read and play standard music notation for the ukulele. We will identify notes on the staff, learn how to find them on our ukuleles, and practice playing scales and simple single-note melodies. The skills you learn will build the foundation for reading scores and playing written music anywhere you find it. Suitable for anyone who has never read music notation before, even if you have other ukulele playing experience; or for anyone who has learned how to read music notation for another instrument but not for ukulele. This class will be taught in C tuning (GCEA).
We'll be using the excellent “Ukulele in the Classroom” materials by James Hill and Chalmers Doane, along with other supplementary materials supplied.
You will need to supply your own ukulele and be able to tune it to standard C tuning.
