The November Project is a Canadian story created by Rob Horgan, drawn from letters that his grandfather wrote to his grandmother during World War II. Horgan's grandfather fought on the front lines all across Europe with the 48th Highlanders of Canada and wrote over 300 love letters to his young bride in Toronto from 1943-1946. Now airing on Bell TV as a five-part series, The November Project has been presented live in different contexts with musicians singing songs in between live readings of the letters. This November, The November Project will be staged in Toronto with a community ukulele group led by Eve Goldberg.
You'll be learning to sing and play five or six World-War II-era songs. We'll have four online rehearsals online using Zoom, where we'll learn the songs and go through the chords and accompaniment together. All rehearsals will be recorded and posted for participants to access later. If you can't attend the online rehearsals in real time, you can still participate by watching the rehearsals on your own time and practicing on your own.
We'll also have one in-person rehearsal in the east end of Toronto on Thursday, Nov 6th (evening).
You'll be provided with song sheets and other printed materials as needed. You'll need to supply your own ukulele and be able to tune it - all materials will be in C tuning. Baritone ukuleles welcome!
The performance will take place on Saturday, Nov 8 at 3 pm at The Rivoli, 334 Queen St. W. in Toronto. Participants will probably be asked to arrive several hours earlier to warm up and run through pieces before the doors open.
